NDSU President Joseph A. Chapman has appointed seven new members to the University Diversity Council. The three year appointments were effective Aug. 16.
New members are Holly Bastow-Shoop, professor and head of apparel, design, facility and hospitality management; Eugene Berry, associate professor of veterinary and microbiological sciences; Daniel Ewert chair and professor of electrical and computing engineering; Bunnie Johnson-Messelt, disability services coordinator; and students Ken Gillies, Parshall, N.D.; Shanda Larsen, Holdingford, Minn.; and James Larson, Ivanhoe, Minn.
Chapman also reappointed Rhonda Kitch , assistant registrar; Allyn Kostecki, TRIO programs director; Charles Okigbo, professor of communication; Charles Peterson, dean of pharmacy; Kara Stack, Memorial Union assistant director; Karla Thoennes, associate director of Residence Life; and Rita Ussatis, Cass County Extension Agent.
Craig Schnell, provost and vice president for academic affairs, and Sandra Holbrook, director of Equal Opportunity will continue to serve as council co-chairs. Other continuing members are Alan White, dean of science and mathematics; Ann Burnett, associate professor of communication; Ahmed Kamel, assistant professor of computer science; Kerri Spiering, International Programs director; Gene Taylor, director of athletics; Jaclynn Davis Wallette, interim director of Multicultural Student Services and coordinator of the Native American pharmacy program; and students John Trautman, Fargo; Heather Nesemeier, Fargo; Aaron Eichenberger, Foreston, Minn.; and Paul Lundstrom, Hazen, N.D.
The council was developed to advise the president on matters of diversity and equity, to prepare a strategic plan for increasing diversity and monitoring achievements related to the plan and to foster appreciation among members of the campus community for the benefits of diversity. It currently is preparing a draft of a strategic plan using results of the campus climate survey conducted in spring 2003.
The Diversity Council plans to host an information table from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sept. 15-16 and Sept. 21-23 in the Memorial Union.
